The International Education and Development Studies (IEDS) Journal is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and takes all possible measures against publication malpractice. The journal adheres to the ethical principles and best practices outlined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) for editors, reviewers, and authors. It is essential that all parties involved in the publication process-authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher-fully agree to and comply with the ethical standards and responsibilities set out in this statement to ensure academic integrity and scholarly excellence.Ethical Statement

Publication Process

IEDS Journal is committed to maintaining transparency and fairness throughout the publication process. Authors are kept informed about the status of their manuscripts at all stages of review and decision-making. Upon submission, authors receive an acknowledgment of receipt, outlining the review procedures and expected timelines. The journal strives to ensure that authors are confident that their manuscripts are handled professionally, ethically, and without bias.

The editorial team-comprising the Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editor, and Associate Editors-conducts an initial screening of all submissions. This screening ensures that manuscripts align with the journal’s scope, aims, and minimum scholarly standards. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria may be returned to the authors with constructive guidance or recommendations to submit to a more suitable journal. This preliminary evaluation is regarded as an important ethical responsibility of the journal.

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are subjected to a double-blind peer review process. Final acceptance is contingent upon favorable reviewer reports and compliance with all ethical, legal, and academic standards, including those related to plagiarism, copyright, libel, and data integrity.

Duties and Responsibilities of Authors

Authors submitting to IEDS Journal must ensure that their work is original, scholarly, and ethically conducted. Submissions should make a meaningful contribution to existing knowledge, apply appropriate theoretical or empirical frameworks, and present conclusions supported by clear evidence. Where multiple authors are listed, all must have made significant contributions to the research.

Authors are required to:

  • Ensure originality and properly acknowledge all sources through accurate referencing.
  • Avoid all forms of plagiarism, data fabrication, or falsification.
  • Declare that all data presented are genuine, accurate, and ethically obtained.
  • Disclose any financial support, funding sources, or potential conflicts of interest related to the research.
  • Confirm that the manuscript is not under consideration by another journal simultaneously.

Once a manuscript is accepted, authors are responsible for carefully reviewing proofs and promptly notifying the editorial team of any errors or required corrections prior to publication.

Any fees charged by the journal are strictly for administrative and publication purposes and have no influence on editorial or peer review decisions. Policies regarding withdrawal and refunds, if applicable, are clearly communicated to authors at the time of submission and acceptance.

Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewers

Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Reviewers play a vital role in assisting editors in making informed publication decisions. Reviews should be objective, constructive, and supported by clear academic reasoning. When recommending rejection, reviewers should provide sufficient explanation to help authors improve their work.

Professional Conduct

Reviewers must:

  • Accept review assignments only when they have appropriate expertise.
  • Declare any conflicts of interest that may compromise impartiality.
  • Treat all manuscripts as confidential documents.
  • Identify relevant published work that has not been cited.
  • Avoid using unpublished material from manuscripts for personal research purposes.

IEDS Journal maintains and regularly updates a reviewer database to ensure subject-area competence and timely reviews.

Editors’ Responsibilities

Editorial Independence and Decision-Making

The Editor-in-Chief has full authority over editorial decisions and is responsible for ensuring that all accepted manuscripts meet the journal’s academic and ethical standards. Decisions to accept or reject a manuscript are based solely on scholarly merit, originality, clarity, and relevance to the journal’s scope.

Timeliness

Editors are committed to ensuring a prompt and efficient review process. If a reviewer fails to submit a report within a reasonable timeframe, the manuscript is reassigned to another qualified reviewer to avoid unnecessary delays.

Fairness and Non-Discrimination

Editorial decisions are made without regard to authors’ race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy.

Confidentiality

Editors and editorial staff must not disclose information about submitted manuscripts to anyone other than those directly involved in the review and publication process. IEDS Journal takes all reasonable measures to protect the confidentiality of authors and reviewers and to preserve reviewer anonymity.

Transparency, Corrections, and Retractions

When significant errors or ethical issues are identified in published articles, the journal is committed to issuing corrections, clarifications, or retractions promptly and transparently. Retraction notices will:

  • Be clearly identified as retractions,
  • Be linked to the retracted article where possible,
  • Include the article title and authors,
  • Be published promptly to minimize potential harm.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Any unpublished material disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used by editors or reviewers in their own research. All conflicts of interest must be declared and appropriately managed.

Declaration

The IEDS Journal and its Editorial Board remain vigilant in safeguarding publication ethics and maintaining the integrity of the academic record. While every effort is made to prevent plagiarism and unethical research practices, ultimate responsibility for the content of published articles rests with the authors. Editorial and business considerations will never compromise intellectual rigor or ethical standards.

Disclaimer

The International Education and Development Studies (IEDS) Journal, its editors, and Editorial Board do not accept responsibility for the opinions, interpretations, or conclusions expressed by authors in published manuscripts. The accuracy, originality, and proofreading of manuscripts are the sole responsibility of the authors. All submissions undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review process, and final publication decisions rest with the editorial team.

IEDS Journal reserves the right to amend, modify, or update its policies and procedures as necessary. Such changes shall not be considered a violation of the relationship between the journal and its contributors.
